About Us
Blackheath Montessori Centre was established in 1979 as a registered charity, taking over from a private nursery school which had been operating for many years at this site.
We are based in the heart of Blackheath Village tucked down a quiet private road; we are close to great transport links which include buses and trains.
Children join us from two years and nine months and leave before their fifth birthday. We have three classrooms which are mixed with children of different ages and abilities. Our teaching method is child-led, so the children are free to choose activities that interest them and the teachers are there to support and guide them.
We offer the children the opportunity to enjoy extra-curricular activities during their week, such as music, dance and sports.
The Centre is a limited company and a registered charity; it is run as a non-profit making enterprise, and we are a self-supporting organisation. The primary source of income is fees, and the Centre depends on the co-operation of parents/carers, particularly regarding prompt payment of fees, for its administrative efficiency and economic viability.
The Centre also runs fundraising events during the year, such as an Easter raffle, special activity days at the weekend, and mufti days. We greatly appreciate parents' support of these events, as all funds raised are used to provide equipment and toys for the children. We are currently fundraising to renovate our garden area.
The Centre is open all year round including the summer; we only close for one week at Christmas, one week for three half terms spread out over the year, bank holidays and staff training days.
The Centre's opening hours are 8am to 6pm.

Ofsted awarded Blackheath Montessori Centre the rating of Strong standard in all areas.
